Whenever I faced difficulties in my life, I would find my mother's shoulder to cry on. Though I seldom took my mother's advice, I would call my mother and cry. I failed to take my full responsibility when I had my mother to rely on. No event in my 25 years of life demanded urgent maturity and self-reliant until the sudden losing of my beloved mother.
On December 9, 2006, that Saturday started as usual. I woke up late and cleaned my room. My cousin visited my house and we were chatting. I had no clue that next few hours will change my life forever. While we were talking, we were interrupted by my phone ringing. The caller ID displayed was my cousin's home from Myanmar.
When I picked up the call, I was expecting to hear complaints about my cousin. Instead it was for me. When I said hello, I could hear the haunting fear and sadness lingering in my aunt's voice. Before I could ask what happened, she proceeded to tell me that my mother has passed away. I nervously asked what and she repeated her words again. I then hang up the call and shouted loudly. I could not remember what I shouted or what I did. When I realized, the only thing I remember is my father and my younger sister. All of sudden, I became a person with a lot of responsibilities. I don't know where and when my tears had gone. I could not cry at her funeral. I realized lately that my mother meant the whole world to me.
